Genting Cable Car Opening Hours
Awana SkyWay currently operates from 7 AM to 11 PM. Here is what those hours mean for planning your ascent, return trip, Chin Swee stop and 2026 maintenance dates.
Awana SkyWay operating hours
Awana SkyWay connects Sky Sentral at mid-hill with Genting Highlands Station at the peak. The line is approximately 2.8 km long and climbs from about 1,105 metres to 1,725 metres above sea level.
What time should you arrive?
There is no single best time for every visitor. If you are making a day trip, an earlier arrival gives you more time at the peak and leaves more flexibility for the return ride. If you plan to stop at Chin Swee Caves Temple, allow additional time rather than treating the cable-car journey as only a 10-minute transfer.
On weekends, public holidays and school holidays, allow extra time for parking, ticketing and boarding. The published operating window tells you when the system operates; it should not be treated as a guarantee that you can arrive at the final minute and board immediately.
Planning the last ride down
If your car is parked at Genting Highlands Premium Outlets or your onward transport leaves from Sky Sentral, you need to return to the lower station before your transport connection. Plan backwards from the cable-car closing time and your bus, taxi or pickup time, with a sensible buffer for walking through SkyAvenue and possible queues.
2026 scheduled maintenance
Genting SkyWay itself has scheduled fourth-quarter maintenance from 5–9 October 2026; Awana SkyWay is scheduled to remain available from 7 AM to 11 PM during that closure.
Maintenance dates and operating arrangements can change. If your trip falls close to a maintenance period, verify the current operating status before travelling.
Awana SkyWay vs Genting SkyWay hours
| Route | Regular published hours | Journey |
|---|---|---|
| Awana SkyWay Sky Sentral ↔ Genting Highlands | 7 AM–11 PM | ~10 minutes / 2.8 km |
| Genting SkyWay Gohtong Sentral ↔ Resorts World | 9 AM–7 PM | ~15 minutes / 3.4 km |
For most visitors using Genting Highlands Premium Outlets or the Sky Sentral bus terminal, Awana SkyWay is the more convenient route. Genting SkyWay is a separate cable-car line with a different lower station.
Does Chin Swee Station have separate cable-car hours?
Chin Swee is an intermediate station on Awana SkyWay rather than a separate cable-car system. The same Awana SkyWay ticket includes a complimentary stop there. Because a stop adds sightseeing and walking time, visitors planning Chin Swee should avoid leaving it until close to the end of the operating day.
What if Awana SkyWay is closed?
During scheduled Awana maintenance, the operator can use Genting SkyWay as the alternative cable-car route. The lower boarding location is different, so do not assume you should still go to the normal Awana boarding point when a closure is in effect. Follow the operator's current transport arrangement for the day.
Are the hours the same every day?
The current published Awana hours are 7 AM–11 PM rather than separate weekday and weekend schedules. Temporary operational changes, maintenance or other circumstances can still affect service, which is why checking near your travel date is sensible.
